Leaking Brake Master Cylinder

Hey, has anyone had any issues about a leaking brake master cylinder?

I have a 2010 Fatboy, done just over 2000 ks and I notice after a ride there is a film of brake fluid around the seal on the front brake master cylinder.

Is this normal? I don't like the sound of it as I have had a few experiences over the years with brake fluid and paintwork. Kinda stuff up the paintwork.........

If it is a problem, how can I fix it???

    Help please.

    Cheers

Sounds like it's over full. Put a rag around it, take the lid off and drain some fluid out, should work...........

    Not normal.

If its the seal on the top, (filler cap) remove the cap, inspect the seal, if it looks OK, then re-fit it and make sure the cap is tight.

If the seal has been installed incorrectly and looks bad, replace it.

Now if it's the seal where the piston  is, I'd take it to the dealer and ask them to replace the master cylinder,

(2010, 2000 K's should be covered by warrenty)

Some of the 07 bikes had the same problem, and the seals were replaced under warranty. There might be to much in the reservoir just check the height of the fluid in the reservoir, if it at the correct height I would check the screws are at the correct torque. I know if they are to tight they will distort the seal. It might be worth your while replacing the seal, or check with HH about warranty replacement.. I think that the models from 08 on used DOT5 fluid so it won't eat your paint.

Sounds like the same as a mate from work, owns a 2010 fat boy lo and has had his replaced twice already under warranty.

Same thing happened to my 07 Fatty, i had the whole assembly replaced under warranty, it started leaking before the 1500k service. Now, 4yrs on, it's doing the same thing. As is the foot brake cylinder, it's got the bubbling shit happening as well. Frustrating i know.

Yep, screw pressure is critical.....don't test at 60k/h test at 110k/h    lol

    Thanks fellas,

I'll have a look at the level and start from there. If that doesn't help, it will be a phone call to the dealer and a trip up to them.

    Cheers

Twice replaced the front master cylinder under warranty on the 08 Fatty for the same reason. Out of warranty now and same shit happening on front and rear. Learnt to live with it.

Same happened to my 2010 Fatboy Lo, removed the cap removed some of the fluid cleaned the cap and the rubber seal completely reinstalled seal and cap. No more leaks so far after 12months of riding. Never happened on my jap bikes.

Was told that to replace Dot 4 with Dot 5 as its' less corrosive.
Bought an 08 Deluxe second-hand. Would this still be a warranty claim as it seems to be a common problem.
Or am I boned, and they'll charge me a mint for it?

Well after I lowered the brake fluid level a while ago, I have had no brake fluid leaks as yet. So hopefully problem solved??

Had fluid leaking out of the Front Master Cylinder cover on my 2010 Fatboy Lo, they were going to replace the cap but I ended up removing the cap, cleaned all the fluide of  the cap reduced the amount of fluid it didn't leak again.

On the 2010 Fatboy lo you have to purchase the cap and seal as a set.

    Hey Dicko

Any team beating Carton is a good thing!

Bought genuin Harley from the States. Last order before the shutdown.

Cost me just under $500 to the door. Worked out about $120 cheaper than buying here.
